Corinthos Family Wavs!
He's Da Man, He's Da Mob, He Will Put A Horse Head In Your Bed!
A wav of Mr. Sonny Corinthos -- mob boss extraordinaire!
Of all the things that annoys viewers about daytime drama, the pointless censorship of certain lines has got to be one of the biggies! Listen to this wav of Sonny's mortal enemy, Joseph Sorel and then you tell me if censorship doesn't water down what should be juicy mobster dialogue. Exactly how threatening does Sorel sound here? And why should Sonny be scared?
Ya gotta love Johnny! Although he rarely speaks, he makes his point pretty danged clearly, as we can hear in this exclusive wav of Johnny the Bodyguard threatening someone who tried to get a little too close to Sonny!

The Sopranos Would Eat Him Up In A Second! Sonny Corinthos is the dark, handsome, sexy, brooding mob man who lives in a dark and lifeless bulletproof penthouse with a bodyguard outside the door. Beyond that, there's not a whole heck of a lot about Sonny that makes you think he's a big, bad mobster man. In fact, Sonny often comes across so hurt and sad-eyed that even your own mother would want to take him home, make him some soup and implore him to "eat! eat!!!" |

Sonny Corinthos is one of those daytime characters who's doomed to have jokes made about him, because of the very character he's meant to portray! The money-laundering, casino-owning, God-knows-what-else-ing mobster man is doomed to stereotype land because daytime doesn't allow bad men to be, well, bad men unless they're not on contract and can be written off the show. When Sonny finally decides to get rid of his enemy, Sorel, does he kill him? Off him with a silencer? Nope. He gets one of his goons to tie Sorel to a post and call 9-1-1 so that cops can come and pick him up and throw him in jail. Ummm, these would be the same cops that Sonny has absolutely no faith in. No matter. Sonny can't murder because Sonny has to have a heart of gold under all that Brylcreem and Versace. Sonny obviously makes his money illegally but we're never really told how. He can't be a drug runner or run a prostitution/pornography ring, since that's a no-no in daytime. He owns a few gambling establishments and apparently launders money but since gambling isn't seen as an evil in the same league as drug running and since "money laundering" means little or nothing to most GH viewers, he can still be seen as a good guy -- a mobster who does this for a living as long as nobody gets hurt. Puh-leez! Will Sonny ever get caught, tried and convicted? Nope. Why? Two words: Maurice Benard. Three more words: Too many fans. |
